Museum Programs

The Virginia Discovery Museum offers interactive and hands-on drop-in, drop-off, and pop-up programming year-round to engage both children and adults, and we often collaborate with individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community to bring new programs to our visitors. Weekly Programs

These drop-in and pop-up programs are free with Museum admission. Fall 2017 lineup below.

Story Time

First & Third Mondays, 10:30 a.m. All Ages, with Adult.

Introduce children to new words and ideas through fun and engaging stories told in a variety of mediums.

New Parent Meetup

Tuesday Mornings, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Meet others starting their parenting journeys to chat about all things mom (and dad)! Nursing and napping babies welcome.

Wednesdays & Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. Ages 1-3, with Adult.

Short sensory, gross and fine motor, and science activities at an appropriate developmental level for our youngest visitors.

Spatial Games Club

Wednesday Afternoons, 4:00 p.m. Ages 3 & Up, with Adult.

Join Dr. Jamie Jirout and other researchers from UVA to play games and do puzzles involving spatial learning.

Thursday Afternoons, 4:00 p.m. Ages 4-8.

Explore art, science, world cultures, and animals through crafts, experiments, games, special guests, and more.

Join local artisan Irene Jennings as we explore different art movements and create pieces based on those concepts.

Saturday Afternoons, 1:00-3:00 p.m. All Ages, with Adult.

Meet child development researchers from UVA and participate in short, fun activities as part of new and ongoing studies.

Date Night Drop-Off

Once Monthly from Fall to Spring (Fridays, 5:30-8:30 p.m.)

Parents, need a Friday night out? Let us watch the kids while you enjoy some much-deserved time to yourselves!

School Supplies Drive for Houston

Sept. 5 through Sept. 22

VDM is collecting new school supplies for children and schools in Houston affected by Hurricane Harvey.
