The Virginia Discovery Museum offers interactive and hands-on drop-in, drop-off, and pop-up programming year-round to engage both children and adults, and we often collaborate with individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community to bring new programs to our visitors.
Weekly Drop-In Programs from September to May. All of these programs are free with Museum admission or membership and do not require registration.
First & Third Mondays, 10:30 a.m.
Introduce children to new words and ideas through fun and engaging stories told in a variety of mediums.
Recommended for all ages, with adult.
New Parent Meetup
Tuesday Mornings, 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Meet others starting their parenting journeys to chat about all things mom (and dad)! Nursing and napping babies welcome.
Children under 1 receive free Museum admission.
Wednesdays & Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.
Sensory, gross and fine motor, and science activities at an appropriate developmental level for our youngest visitors.
Recommended for ages 1-3, with adult.
Spatial Games Club
Wednesday Afternoons, 4:00 p.m.
Join Dr. Jamie Jirout and other researchers from UVA to play games and complete puzzles involving spatial learning.
Recommended for ages 3+, with adult.
Thursday Afternoons, 4:00 p.m.
Explore art, science, world cultures, and animals through crafts, experiments, games, special guests, and more.
Recommended for ages 4-8.
Friday Mornings, 10:30 a.m.
Join local artisan Irene Jennings as we create different types of art through fun, hands-on exploration.
Recommended for ages 3-6.
Saturday Afternoons, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Meet child development researchers from UVA and participate in short, fun activities as part of new and ongoing studies.
Recommended for all ages, with adult.

Looking for some STEAM-themed fun after school? These hour-long mini drop-off programs focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and math enrichment through games, crafts, and collaborative challenges.

Date Night Drop-Off
Once Monthly, September to March (Fridays, 5:30-8:30 p.m.)
Parents, need a night out? Let us watch the kids while you enjoy some much-deserved time to yourselves. Drop-offs include themed crafts and activities, a pizza dinner, and plenty of playtime in the Museum Galleries.
Ages 3-10. Has a fee and requires pre-registration. Member discounts apply.
Occasional Discussion Series for Parents. Times Vary.
The Museum isn’t just for the kids … it’s for the grown-ups, too! Meet guest educators, researchers, and thought leaders from our community as we discuss topics like parenting, healthy lifestyle management, child development, and more.

Meet the Symphony Musician
Twice Yearly, January & February (Saturday, 10:30-11:30 a.m.)
The Museum is proud to partner with Charlottesville Symphony for two musical education programs each year. Meet a guest musician as we learn about a featured instrument family, enjoy a musical story time, and interact with different instruments during a hands-on “petting zoo.”
All Ages, with adult. Free to attend, but space is limited.
Robot Rally: Cubelets
April 26 & May 17, 2018 (Thursday, 4:30-5:30 p.m.)
The Museum is excited to partner with sponsor S&P Global to introduce Cubelets to our visitors during two special programs this spring. Cubelets are pre-programmed modular blocks that combine in endless ways to create different kinds of robots and encourage kids to use creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.
Ages 4+. Free to attend, but requires pre-registration. Space is limited.
