Starting Nov. 2, Wegmans Charlottesville will sponsor the Virginia Discovery Museum’s monthly Pay What You Wish admission program from November 2016 to November 2017. Now called Wegmans Wednesdays, the program waives the Museum’s normal entrance fee for all visitors on the first Wednesday of every month.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Wegmans to offer Wegmans Wednesday to the Charlottesville-Albemarle community,” VDM Interim Executive Director Janine Dozier said. “Wegmans’ sponsorship of VDM’s Pay What You Wish program makes the Museum and its programming accessible to all families in our community, which is a cornerstone of our mission.”

How Does the Program Work?

In lieu of paying admission on Wegmans Wednesdays, visitors are invited to make a donation to help support the Virginia Discovery Museum's exhibits and programming if they would like. Just like regular Museum visits, families enjoy all-day entrance on Wegmans Wednesdays and may come and go as they please from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Last year, the Virginia Discovery Museum welcomed more than 600 visitors specifically through this admission program.

“We’re excited to be part of the Charlottesville community, and our sponsorship of this program is just one example of our commitment to making a difference in every community we serve,” Wegmans Charlottesville store manager Chris DePumpo said. “One of our key focus areas for making a difference is helping young people succeed. By partnering with the Virginia Discovery Museum, specifically on the admission program, we’re doing just that by ensuring more children in the Charlottesville community have access to important enrichment opportunities.”

Wegmans will open its Charlottesville store on Nov. 6 at 5th Street Station on the intersection of Interstate 64 and 5th Street.
