    What if a Maker series I want to participate in has filled?

    All Makers series have a maximum capacity of 8 children. After a series has filled, we place children on a waiting list. Situations often arise in which a registered child is unable to attend the program. In the event of such cancellations, the Museum contacts families on the waiting list in the order their registration requests were received.

    Does the Museum offer financial assistance for Makers series?

    Yes, scholarships are provided for Makers series on a rolling scale based on financial need. If there is a financial hardship that would prevent your child from participating in a series, please contact our Programming Education Manager at (434) 977-1025 x104 for scholarship information. Applicants will be asked to fill out either an electronic or paper scholarship request form in order to be approved for financial assistance.

    Would you like to support our scholarship fund? If you or your organization would like to donate to the Museum’s scholarship fund, please call (434) 977-1025 x102 or email, or mail a check payable to “Virginia Discovery Museum” indicating “Scholarship Fund.”

    What is the Museum’s cancellation and refund policy?

    A minimum of six students is required for a Makers series to run. If a series is canceled by the Museum due to insufficient enrollment, the registration fee will be refunded to all registrants. Individual registration cancellations must be made at least two business days before the beginning of the corresponding series in order to be eligible for a refund. If the cancellation causes the program roster to fall below the required minimum, the refund will be contingent upon the vacancy being filled. No refunds will be issued after a series begins.

    Please note: Cancellations must be made by calling (434) 977-1025 x104, emailing, or visiting the Museum at 524 East Main St. on the Downtown Mall.

    Where can I park to drop my child off for a Makers series?

    We suggest parking in the Market Street Garage, which is conveniently located across from the Museum and provides visitors with their first hour of parking for free. Effective Oct. 1, 2017, VDM validates parking for Museum visitors at the Market Street Garage only. VDM will provide you a validation ticket for an additional hour of free parking, for a total of two free hours. To get to the Museum from the Market Street Garage, take the Main Street elevator to the ground level; VDM is across the bricks to the left, next to our antique carousel.

    When does check-in begin for Makers series?

    All Makers series run from 4:15-5:15 p.m. Check-in starts at 4:10 p.m. at the Museum’s Front Desk. Please sign in before heading back to Creation Station.
