Create your own winter wonderland with a handmade wooden naturescape, crafted by the VDM staff, as you and your little explorer discover the creatures, people, and natural beauty found in the frozen tundra. Paint a wintry scene and decorate it with evergreen tree and icicle crafts. Sculpt and build arctic animals like polar bears, snowy owls, narwhals, and more. Investigate the science behind glaciers, snow, and aurora with glacier gak, indoor sensory snow, and and LED Northern Lights craft. Dioramas make a great gift for family and friends with children 4 and up and provide crafting and science exploration the whole family can enjoy together.

What’s inside the Arctic Exploration Holiday Diorama?

The Arctic Exploration Holiday Diorama contains a handmade, wooden diorama built by VDM staff, plus paints and materials to craft evergreen trees and hanging icicles; sculpt a variety of Arctic animals and an Arctic explorer; and investigate natural phenomena like glaciers, snowfall, and aurora through STEM activities like glacier gak, indoor sensory snow, and an LED Northern Lights craft. What’s the recommended age for the Arctic Exploration Holiday Diorama?

The Arctic Exploration Holiday Diorama is recommended for children 4 and up with adult supervision, and we encourage children and their grownups to enjoy the activities together.

How will we receive our Arctic Exploration Holiday Diorama(s)?

Families will receive their diorama orders on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Free delivery is available for addresses within our designated delivery area, or families can choose contactless pickup between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. behind the Virginia Discovery Museum at 591 E Water Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902 between the Downtown Transit Station and C&O Restaurant. Please note that missed pickups will be charged a $15 fee to have their diorama(s) delivered Dec. 17, and orders will not be refunded for missed pickups. If you know ahead of time that you will be unable to pick up your diorama during this designated time period, please contact so that we can work with you to make alternate arrangements.

How do I apply my 15% annual member discount?

Due to our closure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, VDM is honoring the 15% annual member discount for all current annual memberships as well as those that were active as of March 13, 2020, that have since expired through Dec. 31, 2020.
