Watch your child develop his or her own unique voice as we craft our own poems to take home each week! We’ll tap into our creativity, stretch our imaginations, play with words, and learn about language using a variety of prompts and styles.
Poet of the Month: Dr. Seuss (March 2, 1904 – Sept. 24, 1991)
- March 7: Rhyme
Rhyming is just a part of phonemic awareness. Join us as we play with the letters, the sounds, and the words.
- March 14: Limericks
Funny or nonsensical, a limerick is five lines of fun!
- March 21: Concrete Poetry
We’ll take a look at how art and poetry blend as we play with words on the page.
- March 28: Poet’s Prerogative
Let your creative conscious flow, picking any poetic pattern to pursue your pleasure.
*Both early and experienced writers are invited to attend Poetry Club.
Power of Poetry: In addition to being fun and a great outlet for self-expression, rhyming and poetry strengthen a child’s memory, ability to recognize patterns, and phonemic awareness (i.e. the understanding that words are made up of sounds that fit together). Learn More
