The Virginia Discovery Museum kicks off its weekly lineup of Fall, Winter, and Spring programs on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and we invite you to join us! All weekly programs are free with Museum admission, and with six different classes to choose from, you're sure to find an age-appropriate program that fits your child's interests.
Story Time (Mondays, 10:30 a.m.): Join us as we curl up with a good book in the Literacy Lounge! Some weeks feature special guest readers, but every week is an opportunity to dive into a new and engaging story together as we introduce children to the joys of reading. (All Ages, with Adult)
Poetry Club (Tuesdays, 4:00 p.m.): Watch your child develop his or her own unique voice! Both early and experienced writers are welcome as we tap into our creativity, stretch our imaginations, play with words, and learn about language using a variety of prompts and styles. (Ages 5 and Older)
Toddler Time (Wednesdays & Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.): Little ones are invited to join us for short, playful activities at an appropriate developmental level. We will explore sensory activities, practice fine and gross motor skills, and learn about the world around us. This program is offered twice a week, allowing you to choose the day that best suits your schedule. (Ages 1 to 3, with Adult)
Kids Club (Wednesdays & Thursdays, 4:00 p.m.): We'll explore a different topic each week through crafts, games, experiments, and more! Rotating topics include Art, Science, and World Cultures. This program is offered twice a week, allowing you to choose the day that best suits your schedule. (Ages 4 and Older)
Art Time (Fridays, 10:30 a.m.): Let's get creative! Your child will discover different art media and techniques to make masterpieces. Things might get a little messy ... we'll break out the paint, clay, and other special supplies that don't often appear in the Creation Station. (Ages 3 to 6)
Living Lab (Saturdays, 1:00-3:00 p.m.): Starting Sept. 10, Living Lab is moving to a new time! Child development researchers will visit the Museum to meet families and discuss their research while children engage in short, fun activities as part of new and ongoing studies. (All Ages, with Adult)
VDM is also excited to announce a new Date Night Drop-Off program for children ages 3 to 10! Themed around superheroes, our first Date Night Drop-Off is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 30, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. We know you're Supermom and Dad-Man, but even parents need a night out to recharge their powers. Drop your little superheroes-in-training off at the Museum for an evening of adventure while you enjoy some time to yourselves. We'll fuel up with a pizza dinner, then it's up, up, and away for plenty of free play in the galleries and some supercharged crafts and activities!
Date Night Drop-Off is $30 for the first child and $15 for each sibling. Children must be fully potty-trained to participate. The registration deadline is Sept. 28.
Thank you to everyone who participated in VDM's programming survey in August! Your feedback was invaluable as we designed our programming for the coming year.
